Under the leadership of its long-serving Dean, Swedish Consul General Anders Wiberg, the Honorary Consular Corps in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas has been active as a group in the local community for many years. Mr.Wiberg became Dean in 1987 and has been the driving force behind it.

More recently, the Honorary Consuls resident in The Bahamas, representing more than 40 different countries, have sought to put the Corps on new footing. Moves towards a formalized association were initiated by Mr. Wiberg who then laid the necessary groundwork.

Seeking to create a more structured and focused framework and to improve the effectiveness of their collective work, in 2010 with the assistance of the law firm of Klonaris & Co., the Consuls established an Association by way of a non-profit entity under the Companies Act, 1992. The Association was formally incorporated on 28 January 2010 as The Honorary Consular Corps in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

The primary objectives of the Association are to:

  • Promote and support the understanding, performance and fulfillment of consular duties and functions described in Article 5 and other provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963.
  • Promote and facilitate relations between it and the Bahamas Government.
  • Promote and supportĀ  social, cultural, economic and humanitarian initiatives with a view to collaboration between it and all sectors of Bahamian society.
